ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [...]
OracleWhat does it mean?
An internal consistency check in the Oracle kernel failed. This is a generic internal error indicating the kernel code encountered an unexpected condition; the arguments in square brackets identify which code path was triggered.
Why does it happen?
Can be triggered by block/data corruption, an unfixed Oracle software bug, inconsistent patch levels, memory/hardware problems or unexpected edge cases. The first argument (e.g. [ktbdchk1]) indicates which layer the problem relates to and is key to support analysis.
How to fix it
This error should almost always be handled with Oracle Support. Preserve the generated trace file and the alert.log entry; search the first argument in My Oracle Support with the ORA-600 Troubleshooter and the 'ORA-600 Lookup Tool'. Apply the appropriate patch/PSU/RU. If corruption is suspected, verify block integrity with DBVERIFY/RMAN VALIDATE. In critical environments do not experiment in production without opening an SR.
