ORA-14400: inserted partition key does not map to any partition
OracleWhat does it mean?
The partition key value in the inserted row does not map to any partition defined on the table. No range or list partition exists that covers the value.
Why does it happen?
In RANGE partitioning, a date/value above the highest range was inserted and there is no MAXVALUE partition; in LIST partitioning, a new value that is not defined; the new partition was not created in advance at a month/year boundary.
How to fix it
Add the missing partition: ALTER TABLE my_table ADD PARTITION p_2026_08 VALUES LESS THAN (TO_DATE('2026-09-01','YYYY-MM-DD')); For RANGE, add a MAXVALUE partition as a safety net. Define a DEFAULT partition for LIST to catch unexpected values. Use automatic partitioning (INTERVAL partitioning) so new partitions are created automatically.
