Take a snapshot

ElasticsearchSnapshot

Command

PUT /_snapshot/backup_repo/snap1?wait_for_completion=false
{
  "indices": "customer",
  "include_global_state": false
}

What it does

Takes a point-in-time backup (snapshot) of the specified indices into the repository.

When to use it

For regular backups or as a safety backup before a major change.

Caution

wait_for_completion=true keeps the HTTP connection waiting for a long time on large indices; use false for large snapshots.
