하는 일

controlfile 보존 기간(control_file_record_keep_time)과 무관하게 백업 메타데이터를 중앙 스키마에 저장하는 recovery catalog를 만들고 대상 데이터베이스를 등록한다.

사용 시점

여러 데이터베이스의 백업 이력을 한곳에서 관리하고, Data Guard에서 primary/standby 백업을 상호 교환해 사용하며, 장기(KEEP) 백업과 stored script를 사용하기 위해.

주의

catalog 데이터베이스는 보호 대상 데이터베이스와 다른 서버에 있어야 하며 그 자체도 백업해야 한다. catalog 스키마 버전은 사용 중인 가장 최신 RMAN 클라이언트보다 낮을 수 없다. 더 새로운 클라이언트는 UPGRADE CATALOG가 필요하다. Data Guard에서는 primary만 등록하고, standby는 CONFIGURE DB_UNIQUE_NAME ... CONNECT IDENTIFIER로 DB_UNIQUE_NAME 기준으로 정의한다.
