89: NetworkTimeout (error code 89)

MongoDB

What does it mean?

A network operation during communication with the server did not complete within the allotted time and timed out. The connection was established, but the response did not arrive in time.

Why does it happen?

A slow or unstable network, an overloaded server, a long-running operation delaying the response, socket/connect timeout values set too low, or network congestion.

How to fix it

Measure network latency and stability. Check server load and resources. Set connectTimeoutMS and socketTimeoutMS in the driver to realistic values. Catch transient errors and retry. Optimize slow queries to shorten response times.
