2BP01: dependent_objects_still_exist

PostgreSQL

What does it mean?

The drop was blocked because other objects depend on the object being dropped. DROP fails as long as dependent objects exist.

Why does it happen?

Trying to drop a table while views/foreign keys/functions depend on it; objects depending on a type or schema; DROP without CASCADE; a column/sequence referenced by other objects.

How to fix it

Remove the dependent objects first or drop with CASCADE: DROP TABLE my_table CASCADE; (remember that CASCADE also drops the dependent objects; be careful). To see the dependencies, read the error detail (DETAIL line) or inspect pg_depend/the relevant catalogs. Plan the drop order correctly.
