Roll over via an alias

ElasticsearchIndex Lifecycle

Command

POST /customer-alias/_rollover
{
  "conditions": {
    "max_age": "7d",
    "max_docs": 100000000,
    "max_primary_shard_size": "50gb"
  }
}

What it does

When the write index the alias points to meets the conditions, creates a new index and points the alias to it.

When to use it

To manage index size for time-series data (an alternative/complement to ILM).

Caution

The alias must have a single write index via is_write_index; a wrong configuration blocks the rollover.
