Stop the balancer

Command

sh.stopBalancer()

What it does

Disables the balancer that performs chunk migrations.

When to use it

To stop migrations before a backup, maintenance or a bulk data load.

Caution

If it stays off for a long time, shards become unbalanced; do not forget to re-enable it afterwards.
