View the current value of a variable

Command

SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'innodb_buffer_pool_size';

What it does

Shows the effective value of the specified server variable (or those matching the pattern).

When to use it

To check the running value of a parameter.

Caution

Use SHOW GLOBAL VARIABLES for the global rather than the session value. To see where the value comes from (file, command line, persist): SELECT * FROM performance_schema.variables_info WHERE variable_name = 'innodb_buffer_pool_size';
