1054: Unknown column in field list

MySQL

What does it mean?

The column referenced in the query does not exist in the table or in the current scope.

Why does it happen?

A typo in the column name, the column has been dropped/renamed, a reference to the wrong table, ambiguous/wrong qualification in a JOIN, or a string value written without quotes and taken as a column (WHERE name = value instead of WHERE name = 'value').

How to fix it

List the columns: SHOW COLUMNS FROM my_table or DESCRIBE my_table. Fix the column name and qualify it as my_table.my_column in JOINs. Enclose string literals in single quotes; backticks are only for identifiers. You can check with information_schema.columns.
